Sponsored by FHS Booster Club/Franklin Theatre Association (G Rated)
The FAT CAT Awards are a yearly tradition created to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of Franklin Theatre Company (FTC) and the people who make its productions possible. The FAT CAT Awards were conceived by Alisha Herrick (Graduated 2005), the Thespian Club President and a Senior in 2005. Since then, the FAT CAT Ceremony is still a student-led event with input from the Thespian Club and members of FTC. The FAT CAT Awards are FTC's version of the Tony awards but while the Tony's celebrate productions on Broadway, the FAT CATs recognize the Franklin Theatre Company’s entire season of shows and performances during the school year.
Winners are selected by the FTC through a special voting process. First, a nominee ballot is created with each category (30 Categories) from Best Male Lead to Best Bit Part. Then, the top nominees from each category are placed on an official ballot. The official ballots are placed in a sealed box and given to the Artistic Director, Lisa Sandoval. The ballots are counted by Mrs. Sandoval and the winners are placed in a sealed envelope that is not opened until the ceremony.
FAT CAT stands for Franklin Association of Theatre: Character, Attitude, Talent. Receiving a Fat Cat award means that you demonstrate these qualities. The FAT CAT Award is the most coveted of all awards presented at the ceremony. They are awarded only by Mrs. Sandoval and are not determined by the general ballot. This is awarded to Seniors.
